McCook, IL featured an all amatuer MMA event on Saturday, January 23rd, with the main event consisting of bantamweights Danny Aguirre vs Jorge Gonzalez. The card featured fighters all around the south/west parts of chicago all the way to Indianapolis, Indiana.

Some highlighted fights of the night featured Mike Aguirre making his long-awaited debut against Robert Blankenship. Aguirre, the stronger fighter was able to impose his will on Blankenship with wrestling and ground and pound, causing Blankenship to tap from strikes in the very first round, giving Aguirre a 1-0 MMA record.

Another anticipated fight by fans was between Force Wrestling head coach Joey Arqulla vs Bobby Kpa. First round consisted of consistent takedowns and control by Arqulla, winning the round. In the second round, a tired Arqulla took punishment on the feet with kicks and punches delivered by Kpa, however was able to take Kpa down to the mat once again and use his control. Third round opened up with a kick and spot-on spinning back fist done by Kpa which had Arqulla stunned, however he managed to take Kpa down and earn a TKO victory by ulitilizing the crucifix position and adding strikes to the mix until the ref was forced to stop the fight.

Co-Main event was a 140lb matchup between 9-1 Greg Reddington vs Josh Johnson. Both with a large fanbase in support, Reddington showed superior wrestling, strength, and athleticism by being able to control the pace of the fight. Johnson showed heart and determination and survived, however Reddington took the first round without question. Second round came as both fighters spent slightly more time on their feet exchanging punches and kicks, until eventually Reddington scored a takedown on Johnson, and was able to maintain top position for the rest of the round. Third round approached and kicked off with another takedown by Reddington. Gaining the mount position, Johnson turned over giving up his back, however was able to escape just before the bell rang. Greg Reddington was announced the winner by unanimous decision.

Main Event came as Danny Aguirre met in the center of the cage with Jorge Gonzalez. The fight only lasted 50 seconds, where Gonzalez went for in for a takedown, getting caught in a tight guillotine choke in the process. Aguirre, holding onto his submission attempt was able to use the cage to stand as he then turned Gonzalez over, forcing a tap.

Hoosier Fight Club is back after a successful debut event in November, this time on January 2nd at the Horseshoe Casino, in Hammond, IN.

At a time where Chicago/NW Indiana has been “lacking” in the number of professional fight cards being held (compared to recent years), HFC will not only be featuring pro bouts, but arguably three fights that could easily main event any recent pro fight card in the area.

Main Event:
Keith Wisniewski vs Pete Spratt
Both true vets of MMA, Keith Wisniewski, a local favorite will be taking on Pete “The Secret Weapon” Spratt in the Welterweight (170 lb) division.

Keith Wisniewski (24-12-1)
Coming off of a technical knockout victory over submission expert and previous opponent of Spratt, Tristan Yunker, Keith Wisniewski has been in the UFC octagon, along with fighting for the IFL and Bodog. He has faced off against fighters such as Shinya Aoki, Rory Markham, Nick Thompson, and Shonie Carter. Training out of Duneland Vale Tudo, Wisniewski will engage in the biggest fight since the IFL, when he clashes with Pete Spratt.
Notable Wins: Tristan Yunker, Jorge Santiago, Derrick Noble

Pete Spratt (20-16):
Pete Spratt is best known as a UFC vet, and a member of The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback. Spratt is as experienced as they come, having been in battes with the likes of Georges St. Pierre, Josh Koscheck, Chris Lytle, Carlos Newton, Marcus Davis, and Robbie Lawler who he defeated at UFC 42. Spratt is a native of Sherman, Texas, and will be coming to Hammond, Indiana with the intention of advancing his career in hopes for another shot on the big stage.
Notable Wins: Robbie Lawler, Zach Light, Matt Brown, Tristan Yunker

Co-Maint Event:
Joe Benoit vs Derrick Noble
Another welterweight bout, up-and-comer Joe Benoit will look to take on seasoned vet Derrick Noble

Joe Benoit (10-2):
Fighting out of Gilbert Grappling, Joe Benoit holds a pro record of 10-2, fighting for Brawl At Bourbon Street, Ironheart Crown, and has also fought in the WEC. Benoit is coming off of a recent win in November at HFC 1 where he scored a TKO victory over Josh Rines in the very first round. Benoit is a top ranked up and comer in the area for the welterweight division, and is looking to be put on the map with a victory over Derrick Noble.
Notabe Wins: Juan Magana, Brent Mehroff, Billy Stamp

Derrick Noble (24-12-1)
Derrick Noble is a UFC vet, and has also fought for Bodog, Ironheart Crown, and Madtown Throwdown. Noble is a seasoned veteran in the sport, and is recently coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Shonie Carter. Noble has also defeated the likes of Thiago Alves and Joey Gilbert, coach of Benoit. With nearly 40 fights, Noble is looking to be put back into the UFC with a win over Benoit.
Notable Wins: Thiago Alves, Shonie Carter, Joey Gilbert

John Kolosci vs Bill Hill
Also in the welterweight division, John Kolosci will look to avenge a TKO loss to previous opponent Bill Hill

John Kolosci (12-6)
John Kolosci reached national attention when he was brought onto The Ultimate Fighter 6: Hughes vs Serra. Kolosci was chosen to be on Team Serra, where he defeated Billy Miles, then lost to Mac Danzig 2x, who went onto winning the show. Since the UFC, Kolosci has had five fights, including a recent unanimous decision loss to Shamar Bailey at Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers. Winning four of his last five fights, Kolosci looks to avenge a previous loss against Bill Hill that took place in 2007.
Notable Wins: Scott Sands, Seth Kleinbeck, Billy Miles

Bill Hill (15-21)
Bill Hill has fought with fighters such as Jeremy Horn, Terry Martin, Stephan Bonnar, Jason Guida, James Irvin, and John Kolosci. A pro since 2002, Bill Hill has more experience than most fighters, and is no stranger to fighting in Northwest Indiana. With a win over Kolosci, Bill Hill will look to make it happen a second time come January 2nd.
Notable Wins: John Kolosci, David Kleczkowski, Jay Buck, Adrian Serrano

Full fight card:
Pete Spratt vs. Keith Wisniewski (Main Event)
Derrick Noble vs. Joe Benoit (Co- main event)
Rocky France vs. Jeff Golden
John Kolosci vs. Bill Hill
Bobby Reardanz vs. Mike Pickett
Andy Kapel vs. Louis Taylor
Mike Berry vs. Brandon Delprado

AMATEUR:

With 10 bouts originally scheduled for Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers, only 9 of them took place, leaving a local and high anticipated fight out last minute. The excluded fight was among TUF 9 and IFL vet Mark Miller vs ShoXC and Bellator vet Deray Davis.

After long training and preparation time, both fighters made weight on Friday, November 6th with the intention of going to battle in front of thousands in attendance live at the Sears Center. The day of the event came, with the fighting kicking off in the lightweight division among Christian Uflacker (winner via unanimous decision) and Jonatas Novaes. As a few fights progressed, the fighters were notified that their fight would be postponed to the very last fight of the evening in order to make time for the female fight among Marloes Coenen (winner via armbar) and Roxanne Modafferi.

With the mindset of the fight still happening, regardless of the last minute decision on Strikeforce’s part to judge the importance of fights, Miller and Davis still prepared backstage for their fights. After the fight among Fedor and Brett Rogers, the audience began to clear out, without any knowledge or updates about the fight being rescheduled in the first place. Soon after the main event, officials of the event and state athletic comission began to pack up and walk off the main floor, as Miller and Davis were once again updated with bad news, this time even worse, when literally last minute, on their ways to the entrance ramp, they were informed that their fight has been cancelled.

An unprofessional decision made by Strikeforce resulted in the female fight only lasting 1:05, nearly 40 minutes were available until 8:00, the official time for the main card to start, granting a 40 minute intermission, clearly having plenty of time for the originally planned fight schedule.
