Information surfaced yesterday that Strikeforce would be returning to the Chicago area on July 30, 2011, bringing a show whose main event would showcase a bout between Fedor Emelianenko and  Dan Henderson. It is still not clear at this time if the bout will be at heavyweight, or if a catchweight of 220 lbs will be used.

Henderson, who currently holds Strikeforce’s Light Heavyweight belt after defeating Rafiel “Feijao” Cavalcante on March 5th, has fought both at 185 and 205 lbs, while Fedor has spent most of his career as the top-ranked heavyweight in the world. However, sources from Emelianeko’s camp have indicated that Fedor has been trying to slim down after 2 consecutive losses to Antonio “Big Foot” Silva and Fabricio Werdum, so the weight difference might not be a big issue.

Strikeforce last visited the Chicago area in November of 2009 — a card that included a main event bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers as well as a middleweight title fight between Jake Shields and Jason “Mayhem” Miller. The undercard of that event featured many talented local fighters, so hopefully their upcoming Chicago area event will do the same.

A venue has yet to be officially announced, although it has been speculated that the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates might be targeted, as the tax rates in the suburbs are less expensive than those in Chicago proper.
