Ruggio defeats Noel in 3-round war at HFC 5

Friday, October 15th marked the date of Hoosier Fight Club 5 – an all amatuer MMA event taking place in Valparaiso, Indiana.  Main event featured local undefeated favorite Aaron Noel making his 205lb debut against 11-1 Justin Ruggio who is known for his destruction in the amatuer middleweight division.

The audience errupted as Aaron “The Hulk” Noel made his entrance in his hometown of Valparaiso.   And although Ruggio resides and trains in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, over an hour drive from the event, he still brought enough fans to make it clear he had support with the chants of “Ruggio!” emerging from the crowd.  One of the most audience-hyped fights in the amatuer division that many have ever seen, the fight itself more than lived up to the audience reaction alone.

Fighters touched gloves as Noel came out aggressive with heavy punches, suprising Ruggio with a fury.  However his hard-hitting punches were not enough to win the fight, as Ruggio managed to weather the storm with superior wrestling and active ground and pound.  Ruggio was able to pick up the pace more and more during the three rounds, gaining more control as the fight went on.  A cut opened up under Noel’s left eye, which soon turned in to swelling his entire eye shut, having a “mouse” nearly the size of a tennis ball.  That did not stop Noel whatsoever, as he agreed to keep fighting for the entire 15 minutes.

Ruggio went on to winning a unanimous decision, and during his post-fight interview announced that his next move is to turn pro.

In the co-main event, 155lb Nick Wayne faced off against a very experienced Bryant Whitaker.  Whitaker known for his wrestling, was unable to out-wrestle Nick Wayne in the first round.  Wayne had a clear advantage on the feet during their exchanges, and was able to control the grappling aspect as well with successful takedown defense and counters, putting Whitaker on his back during the fight.  However despite being the dominant fighter, Whitaker was able to pull of a submission victory over Wayne, via submission due to guillotine choke in the second round after a takedown executed by Nick Wayne.
