Mixed Martial Arts Team USA to Take on World July 31

Top U.S. rising stars scheduled to compete against Australia, Ireland and Poland

BRIDGEVIEW – Mixed Martial Arts, the sporting sensation that is sweeping the nation, will take to the Toyota Park ring July 31 for an international competition that is scheduled to pit Team USA against teams of fighters from Australia, Ireland and Poland. Team USA will be composed of 12 of the country’s top Mixed Martial Arts fighting athletes. Tickets go on scale April 16 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster and the Toyota Park box office.

“Fans coming to Toyota Park will catch the next wave of top fighters not just in the U.S. but the world,” said Dan Garnett, general manager of Toyota Park. “We look forward to fans coming to support the teams and compete for bragging rights.”

The event is organized by the MMA Sport Federation, an organization that champions the highest ideals of international sportsmanship. The Federation provides an opportunity for the very best young fighters to train, build skills, and advance their reputations while competing against teams from around the world.

“MMA Sport Federation’s name says it all, as we put SPORT at the heart of it all by stressing athleticism, skill and sportsmanship,” said Mick Doyle, Team USA coach and former International Kickboxing organization world champion. “Those are the values needed to be selected for our U.S. Team but also to succeed at the highest levels of the sport internationally.”

Organizers said fans can look forward to high-quality, spirited bouts featuring some of the best talent in any ring anywhere.

“The U.S. will fight to secure its status as a dominant power in Mixed Martial Arts at a time when the sport is increasingly global and competitive,” said Rob Zbilski, president of True Fighting Championships, the promoter for the event. “This is one of the must see fighting events of the year.”

The following athletes are scheduled to be among those representing the United States – they boast a combined 29-3 record in MMA bouts:

John Hansen, 205 lbs.

Trained by Master Trainer Mick Doyle From Council Bluffs, Iowa. John has a 10-2 Record in MMA. John is representing Team USA in the Light Heavy Weight division. John was 2008 USA National Champion in the LHW Division and works as a Personal Trainer at Mick Doyle’s Kickboxing & Fitness Center.

Mike Zaricor, 145 lbs.

Mike has been fighting for about 2 years and has a record of 9 wins 1 loss,1 decision 1 submission 7 TKO’s. He has been wrestling since he was 6 years old, was a four time state qualifier and a one-time state placer in Missouri. Mike wrestled at Saint Louis community college-Meramec for a semester in college. He is a takedown artist with wicked ground and pound.

Eric Daigle, 155 Lbs.

Eric began his athletic endeavors at age 8 at Cahoy’s Gymnastics Training Center, In Omaha. He went on to compete as a Husker gymnast at the University of Nebraska. While there Eric developed an interest in grappling and Jiu Jitsu. The very same day that he finished his degree, he made his way to Mick Doyle. He has built a Muay Thai record of 4-1, all 4 victories coming by way of KO/TKO, and an MMA record of 4-0, all by way of submission. On November 15th, 2009 Eric captured the ISCF National Tournament lightweight title and has since earned himself a spot on Team USA with a 26-second submission victory on January 22.

Alex White, 155 lbs.

Alex White has a record of 6-0 MMA, 9-1 boxing, and 11-2 in NAGA grappling tourneys. His accomplishments include winning the starting spot for Team USA, and winning the 2009 Ringside World Boxing Championships.
