Local Heavyweight Fighter Gabe Salinas (12-0 Amateur) traveled to Minnesota this weekend to make his professional MMA debut against The Ultimate Fighter 10’s Zak Jensen at Combat on Capitol Hill – a mixed martial arts event featuring 8 professional fights and an amateur bout.

While the professional level of the fight was different from Gabe’s previous twelve amateur bouts, the result was the same – victorious. Salinas finished Jensen in 2:08 of the first round by rear naked choke.

Minnesota MMA News reported that Salinas had choked Jensen unconscious, but the referee failed to see that he had passed out. The official fight result lists that Salinas won by corner stoppage, as Jensen’s corner threw in the towel to draw the ref’s attention when they saw that Jensen was out.

“Words can’t describe!” Said Salinas about his pro debut when blogging about the victory. “I beat Zak Jensen from The Ultimate Fighter 10 tonight by RNC. He was a tough opponent, and I’m very blessed for the opportunity. I’m sure he’ll be back kicking butt soon too.”

Salinas credits his training partners and coaches at The Olympian Centre in Lombard for his win. To follow the career of this stand-out heavyweight, visit Gabe Salinas’ website at
